Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day is approaching and this is a day of volunteering and service in your community (after years of volunteering this is the first I’m hearing about it) and my neighborhood association wants to get people together and “do something”. We decided to work with the City of New Orleans Parks & Parkways department to help spruce up the St Roch Avenue neutral ground. (In New Orleans, the grassy island in the middle of the street is called the “neutral ground” and these are technically “parks”)
I created a flyer to advertise this event. I used the PosterMyWall online program – mostly cause it’s free. At the event, we planted flowers and laid down pine straw to help the soil. This was all donated by Parks & Parkways. Then we painted colorful designs at a nearby community space. Afterward, I grilled up BBQ chicken and handed out cold beers.
