vAuto Wiki Site

Someone recently asked me “Why do most of your blog posts show the easy stuff? Do you still build websites?” Well, the “easy stuff” like a T-shirt graphic can be knocked out while I’m sitting at the laundromat. But a large scaled dynamic site takes more time…and now it’s here!

The vAuto company has a static internal website to find basic information and troubleshooting steps. Unfortunately, this only covers a small percentage of the program. And with this customizable software, a unique instance of an account’s settings can cause errors, so logging these situations (and how to fix them) is an ongoing process with each new release. What was needed is documentation on “all” the functions and also a “wiki” style site that can accept input from all levels of the staff.

I transformed the existing website into a wiki style site, and expanded it to cover all aspects of every module, page, button, icon, function. It has been a huge task but extremely helpful. Microsoft OneNote is the platform we decided upon for its ease of use, version control and notating the user making updates (authorized users only). Now we boast 350+ pages of content!

Tools: Microsoft OneNote, Oracle SQL.
